OUR GUIDE ON
How much do I need to order?
It is easiest to calculate volume in cubic metres or litres. To do this simply measure the length, width and depth of the area you need to fill with soil in metres and multiply the three figures together to get the volume in cubic metres. So… how many tonnes to the cubic metre?
As a general rule a tonne of screened topsoil equals around 750 litres (0.75 cubic metres) or 1.3 tonnes to the cubic metre. It should be noted that blended topsoil may be less dense and therefore closer to 900 litres or even 1 cubic metre to the tonne. Now simply divide the volume in cubic metres by the cubic metre per tonne figure. I.e If I need 9 cubic metre of screened topsoil. 9 divided by 0.75 = 12 tonne.
If you are building up above 3/4 inches (75/100 mm) you need to use a compacting soil such as our BS 3882 which will stabilise. If conditioner soils are used, there will be a risk of sinkage over time due to natural settlement. If you are creating a planting border or vegetable garden, use the Black, Mushroom and / or Conditioner soils.
No, we buy from reputable sources but we cannot guarantee against weed emergence.
1/ Each Bulk Bag contains approximately 850 kg
2/ Bulk Bags are crane lifted off the lorry. If possible the driver can lift the bag over walls up to 1.8m (6ft) if the lorry can get close enough, but obviously at the drivers say so.
3/ What type of gravel ??? The more angular, the more stable. Round gravels are not suitable for paths/ drives as they tend to “Wash” around. Smaller 10 mm gravels seem to be better for drives, but that is just our experience.
4/ Most gravels are in stock, the more expensive ones may need to be ordered and can take up to 1 week to come in.
